Welcome to Sociogram

Sociogram helps you find your people and make real plans together, with people near you: sports, food, music, ideas and more. Invite-only. Real plans. Real people.

This guide takes you through the app, from joining to hosting your first activity. Each section explains how things work and why. Sociogram runs on Android (Google Play) and on the web at app.sociogram.com. The iPhone app is coming soon to the App Store. Where the apps and the web differ, the step says so.

1. Getting in

Sociogram is invite-only: a member invites your UAE mobile number, and you sign in with that number. There’s no link or code to enter. During the pilot only UAE numbers (+971 5…) can join, and members must be 18 or older.

How-to: join Sociogram

  1. Ask a friend on Sociogram to invite your mobile number.
  2. Open the app, tap Sign in with my number, and enter your UAE mobile number. If it has been invited, you’ll get a 6-digit code by SMS. If not, you’ll see straight away: “Sociogram is invite-only. Ask a member to invite this number, then try again.” No code is sent.
  3. Enter the code. On Android, the app may read the code from the SMS and sign you in by itself.
  4. About you: first and last name, birthday, city and gender (Male, Female or Other). A photo is optional. Tick “I agree to the Terms & Conditions and the Privacy Policy” and continue.
  5. Verify your email: open the link we send. On your phone, the link brings you straight back to the app.
  6. Set a password: at least 12 characters, letters and numbers mixed. You can use it to sign in with your email later.
  7. Pick your interests: choose 3 to 15. Start with the Popular row, search for what you’re into, or browse the categories. They shape what Home shows you first.
  8. Set up a passkey when we offer it, so next time you sign in with Face ID or Touch ID. Then a short welcome plays, and you’re in.

Your first visit. The first time you open Sociogram on a phone or browser, the sign-in screen introduces Sociogram and shows how people are connected by invites. Tap Sign in with my number to get your code. After that, it greets you with Welcome back and puts your passkey first.

Signing in after that

Way inHow it works
Sign in with a passkeyThe button at the bottom of the sign-in screen. Face ID, Touch ID or your phone’s fingerprint or face unlock signs you in. No code, no password
Use a codeEnter your number and the 6-digit code we text you
Email and passwordYour verified email and the password you set. Forgot password? sends a reset email
  • The first time you sign in on a new phone, use a code. Afterwards, Sociogram offers to save a passkey on that phone. Tap Not now and it won’t ask again on that device.
  • Until you have a passkey, a One thing left card waits on your profile. Tap Set up a passkey to finish it.
  • New phone, or the passkey doesn’t work? Sign in with a code or your email, then remove the old passkey in You → Settings → Passkeys.
  • On the web at app.sociogram.com you can also sign in with a passkey, a code or your email and password.
  • Sociogram is open to UAE mobile numbers only for now. We’ll be in more places soon.

Just looking? Explore as a guest

Tap Explore Sociogram on the sign-in screen to see what’s on before you’re invited: upcoming public activities, each with its details and how many people are going. Who’s going, the host and online join links stay hidden until you sign in. When something catches your eye, tap Sign in to join, or ask a friend on Sociogram for an invite.

Did you know? A passkey uses your phone’s own Face ID, Touch ID or fingerprint. Your face and fingerprint never leave your phone, and there’s no password for anyone to steal.

2. Your profile

Your profile is how people decide to say yes to a plan with you. You choose how much of it they see. Your phone number, email, birthday and relationship status are never shown to other members.

What’s on your profile

  • Photos: up to 10. Your first photo is your profile picture; the rest appear as slides at the top. Tap the profile picture or any slide to see it full screen and swipe through the rest. You can also add a cover photo from your own profile.
  • The line under your name, for example “Female · Dubai · joined May 2026”.
  • Bio: up to 250 characters.
  • Languages: up to 10, shown as plain text.
  • Interests: the 3 to 15 you picked, which you can change any time.
  • Counts: Contacts, Hosted, Attended and Clans. Tap Contacts or Clans on someone’s profile to open the list; tap Hosted to see what they’re hosting next.

How-to: edit your profile

  1. Go to You → Settings.
  2. Tap About you to change your bio, languages or relationship status. Your relationship status stays private to you.
  3. Tap Edit interests to change your interests, then Save changes.
  4. Tap Manage profile photos to add photos, make one your main photo, or remove one.

Your gender. You choose Male, Female or Other when you join. It appears in Account and, unless you hide it, on your profile. You can’t change it yourself, because some activities are for women only. If it’s wrong, contact us at sociogram.com/contact and we’ll correct it.

Did you know? Every number on a profile is a door. Tap someone’s Contacts or Clans count to see who they know and where they belong, as far as their privacy settings allow.

3. Public or private: the rules

Everything you create on Sociogram is either public or private, and the choice decides who can find it, who can join and how it can be shared. You choose every time: nothing starts as public by default.

Activities

Public activityPrivate activity
Who can find itEveryone, on Home, Explore and SearchNobody. It’s never listed anywhere

On profilesListed in a member’s ClansNever listed, except to people who are in it too

Your profile

SettingWho sees your full profile
Everyone (default)Any Sociogram member
Contacts onlyOnly your contacts. Others see your name, photo and a Connect button

Looking for company requests go either to Contacts & clans (your contacts and people in your clans) or to Anyone in {your city}.

Ladies only works on top of all of this. A Ladies only activity is listed only for members whose profile says Female, and only they can join, see who’s going, or be invited.

Good to know

  • Switching an activity from public to private later removes it from Home, Explore and everyone’s news straight away.
  • Blocking works across everything. If you and someone else have blocked each other, neither of you can see the other’s activities, profile or requests.
  • Activities that are still waiting for our team’s review are visible only to their creator.

Did you know? Private activities don’t even show their title to people who aren’t invited. A shared link just says “This activity is private”.

4. Finding things to do

There are three ways to find a plan. Home shows what’s on for you and lets you filter it. Explore is for browsing when you don’t know what you want yet. Search finds something specific by name or keyword.

Home, top to bottom

  • Filters: narrow what’s on by When, Where, Type (in person or online), Cost, Join (open or by request), Language and Category. The match count updates as you pick.
  • For you: one activity picked for you. It matches your interests first, then your city, then what’s filling fast, then what’s soonest.
  • This Weekend: Saturday and Sunday plans. Swipe to see more.
  • From your people: what your contacts and clans are up to. Who’s going where, new activities, clan announcements, photos from past activities, plans filling fast near you and what’s happening right now. An activity near you appears every few cards. After the news, Home keeps going with upcoming activities, in your city first and then elsewhere, so you never hit a dead end.

Filters narrow the plans at the top and the match count. They don’t change “From your people”.

On a card you can:

  • Tap Join or Ask to join right from the card. If you’re already in, the card shows it.
  • Tap the heart to give a quiet nod. Tap it again to take it back.
  • Tap Message to chat with the person on the card, or Share to send the activity to someone.

How-to: explore

  1. Tap the search icon on Home (on the web, tap Explore →).
  2. Before you type anything, browse category tiles, Trending plans in your top interest, and People and Clans you might like. People and clans who share your interests and city come first.
  3. Keep scrolling: Activities for you keeps loading at the bottom. On the web, tap Load more people or Load more clans for more.

How-to: search

  1. Tap the search icon and type a name, a keyword or a UAE mobile number.
  2. Switch between All, Activities, People and Clans. Once you’ve typed something, each tab shows how many results it has.
  3. On Activities, open Filters to narrow by date, city, cost and more.
  4. Each tab keeps loading as you scroll. To come back to a search later, tap Save this search next to Filters. Your saved searches appear above the Activities list.

When you look for a kind of activity, one search box covers every category and sub-category. Type “hiking” and one tap sets both Adventure and Hiking. “hike”, “hikes” and “hiking” all find the same thing. Online activities carry an Online tag.

Did you know? “Happening now” shows activities in your city that started within the last hour, with a live dot. It’s not too late to show up.

5. Joining an activity

The host decides how people join, and the button on the activity tells you which way it works.

What you seeWhat happens
Join nowYou’re in straight away.
Ask to joinThe host gets your request and approves or declines it. You’ll see “Requested” until they decide.
Invite-onlyOnly people the host invites can join. Private activities always work this way.
FullEvery spot is taken. Spots free up when someone leaves.
Accept invitationYou were invited, so you’re in as soon as you accept, even if the activity is full or invite-only.

How-to: join

  1. Open the activity from Home, Explore, Search or a link.
  2. Check the details: date and time, place, spots (“8/12 joined”), languages, price and any conditions. Web links in the description can be tapped, for example to book or pay on the host’s own page.
  3. Tap Join now or Ask to join. You can also join right from a card on Home.
  4. Changed your mind? Tap Leave activity or Cancel request. Your spot frees up for someone else.

Good to know before you join

  • Price: if an activity shows a price, the host collects it directly (cash on site, card on site, or their own payment link). Sociogram is free for everyone; prices are shown for information and paid directly to the host. Joining works the same for free and paid activities.
  • Ages: some hosts set an age range, for example “ages 25–40”. Your age on the day of the activity is what counts. If there’s no age line, there’s no extra age limit. Every activity is 18+, so a range always starts at 18 or above.
  • Ladies only: these activities are seen and joined only by members whose profile says Female. Anyone with the link can open the page, but only ladies see who’s going and can join.
  • Starting soon: you’ll get a reminder one hour before the start. Joining stays open until the activity ends, so you can still join one that has already started.
  • Safety: if someone you’ve blocked is already going, we’ll tell you before you join, without naming them. You won’t see each other in the list. Activities hosted by someone you’ve blocked, or who has blocked you, never show up for you.

After you join

  • Activity chat: tap Activity chat to talk with the host and everyone who’s in. It stays for 7 days after the activity ends, then disappears.
  • Directions: under Location, tap Open in Maps.
  • Add to calendar: under the date, tap Add to calendar to save it to your own calendar. In the app, your phone’s calendar opens with the title, place and times filled in: check them and save.
  • Photos: when it’s over, the host and everyone who went can add photos for 7 days, up to 6 each. Your contacts see them as a recap on Home.

Did you know? Sociogram is free for everyone. When an activity has a price, you see it before you join, and you pay the host directly.

⋯ menuShare activity, Share with clans, Report this activity, and for hosts Edit, Invite more and Cancel activity.

Sharing an activity you’re going to

  • Share activity → Share in a chat sends it to a contact or group on Sociogram. Share link… sends it anywhere else. The link opens for anyone, even without an account.
  • Share with clans posts it on the calendars of clans you’re in, so their members can see and join it.
  • Private activities can’t be shared this way. Only the host can invite people to them.

Invitations

  • An invitation lets you in even if the activity is full, invite-only or has an age range. Ladies only still applies.
  • Accept invitation puts you straight in. Decline tells the host, and you won’t be able to join that activity later yourself.

Reporting

If an activity looks wrong or unsafe, tap ⋯ → Report this activity. You can report a photo the same way from its own menu.

6. Creating and hosting an activity

Anyone can host, big or small. Creating takes two steps: the essentials first, then optional details you can skip and add later.

How-to: host an activity

  1. Tap + and choose Activity. (On the web, use the + button or the left menu.)
  2. Step 1, the essentials:
    • A title, 3 to 48 characters, like “Tennis Saturday”.
    • What is it? Type a word like “padel” and tap a result. Your title often suggests one for you.
    • In person or online, then the date and time. Activities can be up to 5 months ahead.
    • The place: search the address and drag the pin. For online activities, paste the join link instead.
    • Spots, from 2 to 50.
    • Who can see it: Public shows it on Home and Explore. Private is only for the people you invite.
    • For public activities, the join policy: Open to all or By request.
  3. Tap Next. If something’s missing, the button tells you what.
  4. Step 2, make it yours (all optional): cover photo, description, languages, free or paid, ages and conditions, Ladies only, a spot detail like “Gate 3”, and Save as a template.
  5. Tap Create activity. For a public activity we check once that you’re happy for everyone to see it.
  6. Celebrate, then share: invite your contacts, post it on your clans’ calendars, or copy the link.

Handy extras

  • Drafts: leave halfway and tap Save draft. Pick it up from the + button within 14 days. Drafts stay on your device.
  • Templates: host the same thing often? Save it as a template (up to 20) and start from it next time. Everything except the dates is filled in for you.
  • Ladies only: tick it on step 2 and only ladies will see and join your activity. You can’t change it after creating.
  • Paid activities: set a price in AED and how you’ll collect it: cash on site, card on site, or your own payment link. You collect it yourself.
  • Conditions: add up to 10 short points guests must know, like “Bring your own water”.

Did you know? Every time you create an activity, Sociogram plays a short celebration, and it’s never the same one twice in a row.

Hosting, in depth

Managing who’s coming

  • Requests (By request activities): each request appears on your activity page. Tap Approve or Decline, one person at a time. Declining is silent, and you can’t approve once every spot is taken. You can approve requests until the activity ends, which helps with activities that run over several days.
  • Removing someone: in the going list, remove a person until the activity ends. They’re told, and they can ask again later unless you block them.
  • Invite more: pick up to 50 of your contacts at a time. People already invited or already in are skipped. You can also invite a contact from their profile with Invite to….
  • Private activities: each person you invite gets their own private link. It works only for them, signed in.

Editing

  • Tap Edit activity to change the title, description, time, place, spot detail, join link, spots, ages, languages, price, join policy, public or private, conditions and cover.
  • Editing closes when the activity starts. Some things stay as you created them: the kind of activity, in person or online, and Ladies only. Spots can’t go below the number of people already in.
  • When you save a real change, everyone who’s in and everyone invited gets a short note, for example “Changed: Start time, Location”. Saving without changes sends nothing.
  • If you move the start time, the 1-hour reminder moves with it.

What changes when the activity starts and ends

From the start timeFrom the end time
Editing stops. Joining, inviting and approving stay open, so latecomers can still joinThe activity chat stays open for 7 more days, then disappears from everyone’s inbox
You can still cancel until the activity endsJoining, inviting, approving and removing people stop, and Share with clans is no longer offered
Photos open for 7 days

Cancelling

Tap Cancel activity and confirm. Everyone who’s in and everyone invited is told, the reminder is cancelled, the activity leaves everyone’s Home, and its chat stays for 7 days before it disappears. A cancelled activity can’t be brought back.

Photos after the activity

  • From the end time and for 7 days, you and everyone who went can add photos: up to 6 each and 30 per activity.
  • As the host, you can remove any photo. Others can report one.
  • On a public activity, your contacts see the photos as a recap on Home.

Sharing your activity

After you create it, the celebration screen offers Invite your contacts, Post on your clans’ calendars and Copy or send the link. For a private activity, only inviting contacts is available.

Did you know? Approved guests get a reminder one hour before your activity starts. You don’t need to chase anyone.

7. Looking for company

Want to play padel this weekend but have nobody to go with? Post a request instead of a full activity. People tap “I’m in”, and you turn it into an activity when you have enough.

How-to: post a request

  1. Tap + and choose Looking for company.
  2. Make four picks: how many people (1, 2, 3–5 or More), what it is, the area and when (This week, This weekend or a date).
  3. Optionally narrow it down: who can see it (your contacts and clans, or anyone in your city), an age range, gender and languages. People who don’t match won’t see it.
  4. Tap Post it. Your request becomes one simple line, like “Looking for 2 people for padel in Dubai Marina this weekend”.

How-to: answer a request

  1. Find the request on Home. Requests you haven’t answered appear near the top.
  2. Tap I’m in. The person who posted it is told. Tap again to take it back.
  3. Want to ask something first? Tap Message to chat with them.

How-to: turn it into an activity

  1. On your request, tap Create the activity.
  2. The form is already filled in with what, where, ages and languages, and everyone who said “I’m in” is ticked.
  3. Untick anyone you like, finish the details and create it. The people still ticked get an invitation.

Or tap Found enough to close the request, or Remove request to delete it.

Good to know

  • You can have up to 3 open requests at a time.
  • A request closes by itself when its time window ends, and after 7 days at most.

Did you know? A request has no chat and no pressure. People just say “I’m in”, and you decide when it becomes a plan.

8. Clans

A clan is a group that meets again and again: your running crew, your book club, your Friday football. It has members, a shared calendar of activities and its own chat. There’s no limit on how many members a clan can have.

Kinds of clan

KindWho can find itHow people get in
Public, openEveryone, in Search and ExploreTap Join and you’re in
Public, by requestEveryone, in Search and ExploreAsk to join; the owner or an admin approves
PrivateOnly its members and people invitedBy invitation only

How-to: create a clan

  1. Tap + and choose Clan.
  2. Give it a name and choose Public or Private. For a public clan, choose whether people join straight away or by request.
  3. Pick its interests and area. You can also add photos, a description, languages, rules and a message of the day.
  4. Create it and celebrate. You’re the Owner.

You can’t have two clans with the same name, and a clan’s name stays fixed once it’s created.

Inside a clan (tabs About, Calendar, Members)

  • Members: everyone in the clan, grouped by role. Search the list or tap Load more.
  • Calendar: upcoming and past activities created in the clan or shared to it.
  • About: description, rules, message of the day, languages and when it was created.
  • Clan chat: for members only. New members see messages from the day they joined.

Clan photos. A clan can show up to 10 photos at the top of its page. Swipe through them, and tap one to open the full-screen gallery.

  • Owners: hand the clan over to another member first (you become an Admin), or disband it.
  • Disband: possible only when you’re the last member. Disbanding deletes the clan and its chat for good.

What visitors see. People who aren’t members open on About. A public clan shows its calendar and member list to visitors too, unless the owner keeps them for members in Clan settings. Then visitors see “This clan’s calendar is viewed by members only” with a Join or Request to join button.

Did you know? When an owner updates the clan’s message of the day, every member sees it as an announcement on Home.

9. Running a clan

Owners, admins and assistants keep a clan alive. This section covers everything they can manage, and who can do what.

Clan settings (tap Clan settings, with the gear icon, on the clan page or the About tab)

SettingLimits

AreaWhere the clan meets, for example “Dubai Marina”. The city is worked out from it.
Show the calendar to non-members / Show the member list to non-membersPublic clans only, both on by default. Turn one off and visitors see a “viewed by members only” note with a Join button instead. Public or private, and how people join, can also be changed at any time.
Role namesOn the web, the owner can rename Admin, Assistant and Member, for example “Captain”. What each role can do doesn’t change.

The clan’s name can’t be changed after it’s created.

Members and roles (Members tab)

  • Members are grouped: Owner, Admins, Assistants, then everyone else, 24 at a time. Search by name or tap Load more.
  • Owners and admins tap a member, then Manage, to change their role or remove them. You can only manage people in a lower role than yours. An admin can’t change another admin or the owner.
  • A member is told when their role changes. Removing someone is silent.

Join requests (Owner and admins)

  • For clans that join by request, new requests appear under Pending on the Members tab and on the Requests tile.
  • Tap Approve or Decline. Approved people are told. A declined person can ask again later.
  • Once one manager answers, the request clears for every other manager too.

Invitations (Owner, admins and assistants)

  1. Open the clan menu and tap Invite, or Invite on the Members tab.
  2. Pick from your contacts, or search for anyone on Sociogram. Each person is marked Invite, Invited or Member.
  3. They get an invitation and can accept or decline. Private clans can only be joined this way.

The clan calendar

  • Owners, admins and assistants can create activities for the clan from the Calendar tab.
  • Any member can post a public activity they’re going to onto the calendar with Share with clans.
  • The calendar has Upcoming and Past. Cancelled activities drop off.

Handing over and disbanding

  • Transfer ownership: in Edit clan, pick an active member. They become the Owner and are told; you become an Admin.
  • Leaving as the owner: hand the clan over first, or disband it.
  • Disband: only when you’re the last member left. One confirmation deletes the clan, its chat and its invitations for good. If anyone else is still in, you’ll be asked to transfer ownership instead.

Did you know? Clans celebrate their growth. When a clan reaches 10, 25, 50, 100 and 250 members, its members see the milestone on Home.

10. Contacts and privacy

On Sociogram, your people are your Contacts: one simple circle, with no followers and no tiers. You decide who can find you and what they see.

How-to: connect with someone

  1. Open their profile and tap Connect.
  2. They see your request under Contacts → Requests and tap Accept or Decline.
  3. Once you’re connected, you’ll see each other’s plans on Home.

To remove someone, open their profile, tap ⋯ and choose to remove them.

How-to: find friends you already know (Android and iPhone apps)

  1. Tap Find friends from your contacts on the Contacts tab.
  2. Read how it works, then tap Check my contacts.
  3. Tap Connect next to anyone you know.

Only phone numbers are checked, never names, emails or photos. Numbers are scrambled on your phone before they’re sent, and your contact list is never stored. You can check up to 3 times a day. A search box above the results finds a contact by name or by part of their number.

How-to: invite a friend

  1. Go to You → Settings → Your invites, or tap Invite on Find friends.
  2. Enter their UAE mobile number and tap Send, then share the invite by WhatsApp or any app on your phone. The link opens Sociogram, where they tap Sign up with this number.
  3. Your invite lasts 30 days. Your invites list shows when each was sent, when it expires and when it was used. Tap Share again to send a pending invite once more, or Revoke to take it back. Tap someone who joined to open their profile.

Every member has 50 invites. Invite the people you’d actually make plans with.

Did you know? Community managers, influencers and organisers can apply to become Sociogram ambassadors at sociogram.com/ambassador and bring their whole community in.

My sociogram

Your connections, drawn around you. Open it from the My sociogram tile under your bio on your profile.

  • What you see: you in the middle, your connections around you, and a line between two of them when they’re connected too. Requests you’re waiting on sit at the edge. Only you see your sociogram, and it never shows anyone beyond your own connections.
  • Lenses: All, Clusters (groups of your connections who know each other), Interests, Together (people you’ve done things with) and Recent.
  • Hold a face to see which of your connections they know. Faces you’ve done something with in the last 30 days pulse; people you haven’t seen in a while fade.
  • Circles: tap New circle, pick faces on the graph, then give it a name and a colour. Use a circle to Plan with this circle (a new activity with them already invited) or to invite them to an activity you host. You can also save a cluster as a circle in one tap.
  • Grow helps you find people and invite friends. Stats shows where you stand: your connections, who knows each other, your connectors, and milestones as your circle grows.
  • Tap a face for their card: Message, open their profile, add them to a circle, or Remove or Block them.

Did you know? Circles are private. Only you see them, and nobody is told which of your circles they’re in.

Blocking

Open their profile, tap ⋯ and choose Block. After that, you won’t find each other in search or suggestions, you can’t message each other, and they can’t see your profile or your activities. They stay in your contacts unless you also remove them. Find and unblock people under Contacts → Blocked. If someone you blocked joins an activity you’re in, we’ll let you know. That safety alert can’t be turned off.

Reporting

Tap ⋯ on a profile, activity, photo or request and choose Report. Our team reviews every report.

Choose the reason that fits. Child safety comes first in the list: use it for anything sexual involving a minor, and our team treats it as urgent.

Deleting your account

Go to You → Settings → Danger zone. You have 7 days to change your mind, and you’re hidden from search straight away. After 7 days, your profile and personal data are removed from Sociogram and your messages show as “Deleted user”. We keep a copy in a secure archive only to meet UAE legal obligations, for 5 years, and then delete it. You can’t create a new account with the same number.

Did you know? “Who can see my profile” and “Let people find me in search” are separate. You can stay findable but show your full profile only to your contacts.

11. Chats

Sociogram has three kinds of chat, all in one inbox. Each one opens and closes on its own rules.

ChatWho’s in itWhen it opensWhen it ends
Direct messageYou and one other memberWhen either of you sends the first message. You don’t need to be contactsIt stays until you leave it. Leaving clears it for you only
Activity chatThe host and everyone confirmedThe first time someone taps Activity chat7 days after the activity ends, or 7 days after it’s cancelled. It then disappears from everyone’s inbox
Clan chatClan membersWhen you join the clan. You see messages from the day you joinedIt stays as long as the clan exists

Starting a chat

  • Direct message: open a profile and tap Message. You can also tap Message on a Home card or a Looking for company request.
  • Activity chat: open the activity and tap Activity chat. People who’ve only asked to join can’t open it until they’re approved.
  • Clan chat: tap the chat icon on the clan page, or find it under Chats → Clans.
  • To keep things friendly, you can start up to 5 new conversations an hour. Replies in existing chats are unlimited.

What you can send

  • Messages up to 2,000 characters.
  • Photos up to 8 MB. In the app you see a preview first and can add a caption.
  • Links: the first link in a message shows a preview. YouTube and Vimeo videos play right in the chat.
  • Sociogram links: a link to a profile, activity or clan becomes a card. It only ever shows what the reader is allowed to see, so a private activity stays private.
  • Tags: attach a person, one of your upcoming public activities, or one of your clans. Private activities can’t be tagged. Invite people from the activity instead.

Managing messages

  • Reply: in the app, swipe a message to the right. On the web, use the message’s reply option. Tap a quoted reply to jump to the original.
  • Edit: within 15 minutes of sending. The message then shows “edited”.
  • Delete: your own messages, at any time. Replies that quoted it show “Message deleted”.
  • Removed by Sociogram: if our team removes a message that breaks the rules, it reads “Removed by Sociogram” for everyone in the chat.
  • Read marks: in direct messages, you can see when the other person has read up to your message.

Managing conversations

  • Inbox tabs: All, Contacts, Clans and Activities. Newest conversations come first. Unread ones show a bold name and a dot.
  • Search: a search field appears once a tab holds 6 or more chats.
  • Mark as unread or Leave from a conversation’s menu. Leaving a direct message hides it and clears its history for you; the other person keeps theirs. A new message brings it back.
  • The Chats tab badge counts your unread conversations.

Blocking and chats

Once you block someone, neither of you can message the other. Your past messages stay readable. They aren’t told they’ve been blocked.

Did you know? An activity chat stays open for 7 days after the activity, plenty of time to swap photos and say thanks, then tidies itself out of your inbox.

12. Notifications

The bell tells you when something needs you or involves you. You’re never notified about your own actions, and you choose which groups you hear about.

Everything you can be notified about

GroupYou hear when…Example
ConnectionsSomeone wants to connect, accepts your request, or joins Sociogram from your invite“Sara wants to connect.”
ClansSomeone asks to join or invites you to a clan, or joins or leaves your clan“Omar invited you to Marina Runners.”
ActivitiesYou’re invited, someone asks to join or joins or leaves your activity, an activity you’re in is edited or cancelled, or someone is in for your Looking for company request“Lina invited you to Tennis Saturday.”
ActivitiesAn activity you’re in starts in an hour“Tennis Saturday starts soon.”
MessagesSomeone messages you or a chat you’re in“3 new messages from Sara.”
Safety (always on)Someone you’ve blocked joins an activity you’re in. They’re never named“Someone you’ve blocked just joined Tennis Saturday.”
Official (always on)The Sociogram team sends you a messageMarked “Official · Sociogram Team”

The bell

  • A blue number shows how many are unread. Nothing shows when you’re all caught up.
  • Tap a notification to go straight to what it’s about. Message notifications open the chat itself.
  • Accept or Decline requests and invitations right from the bell. In the app, the Requests view keeps them together.
  • Once you’ve answered a request, its notification clears on all your devices.
  • Messages from one chat gather into one notification that updates, like “3 new messages from Sara”, until you read them.
  • Opening your notifications marks the updates as read, so the number only counts what’s new. Invitations and requests stay until you answer them.
  • Mark one or all as read, delete one, or tap Clear read to remove everything you’ve already read. Unread requests are never cleared by accident.
  • If someone you’ve blocked appears in a notification, their name and photo are hidden.

Badges on the tabs

  • Chats: how many conversations have unread messages.
  • Contacts: how many connection requests are waiting for you.

Push notifications

  • Every notification also arrives on your phone as a push, with the same words.
  • Turn push on or off for this device under You → Settings → Notifications → Push notifications. Your choice is remembered, and signing out turns it off.
  • If your phone blocks notifications for Sociogram, the app shows you where to turn them on in your phone’s Settings.

Email

  • We email straight away only when it matters: a direct message you haven’t read in 12 hours, or an activity starting soon. At most one of these a day.
  • Safety alerts are emailed straight away.
  • Everything else you missed comes in one weekly roundup. Anything that already reached your phone is left out.

Choosing what you hear about

Under You → Settings → Notifications, switch Connections, Clans, Activities and Messages on or off. A group that’s off sends nothing: no bell, no push, no email. Safety alerts and official messages can’t be turned off.

Did you know? Answer a request on your phone and it disappears from your laptop too. You’ll never answer the same request twice.
